Heart of Yourself, Heart for Your Self

At the beginning of this first segment of the 40-day practice, you are invited to add an intention that relates to your relationship with yourself, your feelings for yourself, your ability to see yourself clearly and to appreciate the divine light within you. This light is quite different from the ego, from the irritable human self, from the bounded, limited physical container we sometimes identify as ourself. This light is here to be of service to the highest and the best in all, including ourselves. This light, when we are calm and clear and kind, reflects divine light perfectly, as in a clean mirror. This light, when we contact its essence, the soul within ourselves, is an extension or expression of the Divine, in whatever form we love the Divine, by whatever name we call the Divine.

Examples of intentions for our relationship to ourself:

  • Thanks to Divine Grace, in purity and humility, according to the highest good, I intend to see my inner light, strength, and beauty.
  • Thanks to Divine Grace, in purity and humility, according to the highest good, I intend to love myself freely, in a nonattached way.
  • Thanks to Divine Grace, in purity and humility, according to the highest good, I intend to support myself in being my best self.
  • Thanks to Divine Grace, in purity and humility, according to the highest good, I intend to let go of self-judgment and replace it with clear-sighted compassion for myself.
  • Thanks to Divine Grace, in purity and humility, according to the highest good, I intend to forgive myself.

Or

  • Thanks to Divine Grace, in purity and humility, according to the highest good…[any intention that resonates with you totally].

When you have an intention that clicks into place for you, write your intention for yourself below your overall intention for the 40-day Heart of Transformation practice.

Feel free to come back to these intentions every time you like. If you feel called to do so, it is helpful to check in with them every morning and every evening.

The meditation practice for this piece of the Heart of Transformation series:

Place your left hand on your heart. Place your right hand above the crown of your head, four to six inches above your head. If it is not comfortable to place your hands in those positions, place them there energetically: imagine that you begin by placing your left hand on your heart and your right hand suspended four to six inches above the crown of your head. This placement of your hands, even on its own, offers a powerful self-blessing.

Then say to yourself, at least three times, and preferably for three minutes:

  • May I be safe, may I be happy, may I be healthy, may I live at ease.

If you have privacy, say the words out loud.

You can vary the phrasing if you like. As you did with your intentions, you can formulate your own phrasing here also, so that it resonates with you entirely. The above phrasing is an updated version of a classical meditation. It works! Your phrasing will work, too.

Return to this phrase any time throughout the day that a fear thought enters your mind. Replace any worry or fear instantly with a silent remembrance:

  • May I be safe, may I be happy, may I be healthy, may I live at ease.

Repeat silently and inwardly until you feel your energy shift.
