Meditation at Divine Life Church of Baltimore
The Divine Life Church of Baltimore is a community that honors all paths to God and the universality of the world's major scriptures and spiritual traditions. These traditions include the mystical teachings of Jesus, Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, Judaism, and others. Our philosophy emphasizes our connection and oneness with all life, selfless service, meditation, Self-realization, and unconditional love. We are dedicated to applying these ideals in our everyday life and to promoting the mutual welfare and progress of all beings – our global family.
Meditation is subjective communion with God. It is calming and stilling the mind in order to become aware of the underlying presence of God, the Source, Brahman, the supreme Reality. Meditation is an essential aspect and practice of the spiritual traditions of Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Mystical Christianity, and Mystical Judaism.
Kriya Yoga is a powerful meditation method to help spiritual seekers awaken and realize their oneness with God, the Source. The ancient technique of Kriya has been practiced by Jesus and other illumined beings dating back thousands of years and was brought to the United States from India by Swami Yogananda in the early 1900's.
For those who are interested in learning to meditate, the ancient technique of Kriya Yoga, including the Hong Swa and Aum techniques, is taught privately by Swami Nityananda at the Divine Life Church in Baltimore, Maryland. Before he left the body on November 24, 2014, Swami Shankarananda fully authorized Swami Nityananda to initiate others into Kriya. Swami Shankarananda was initiated into Kriya by Swami Premananda, a direct disciple of Paramahansa Yogananda.
