Doorway to Healing: Hypnotherapy and Spiritual Counseling
with Swami Shankarananda, C.H.T. , Certified Hypnotherapist
Swami Shankarananda is dedicated to cultivating personal spiritual growth. He brings spiritual integrity to his work as he assists the person in achieving integration or wholeness. Fortunately, various therapeutic resources are available to accomplish such movement toward wholeness.
When the client learns to engage the deeper aspects of the mind, he or she can experience definite, progressive change, whether that change involves the elimination of undesirable traits (such as smoking), the catharsis of a past painful memory, or the recognition of a deeper purpose in life.
Many conditions respond favorably to hypnotherapy. It is a highly effective means of behavior modification and of harnessing the power of your own mind.

POLICIES
To obtain the best results, it is recommended that a first-time client make appointments for two sessions a week or so apart. This allows for various techniques of hypnotherapy to be applied in proper succession. If you are traveling from a considerable distance, or it would be a hardship to make two trips close together in time, back-to-back sessions are sometimes possible by prearrangement
.
Due to the special allocation of time set aside for each client, in the event the client is unable to keep the appointment, he or she must cancel at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled appointment.
Please leave your donation immediately after services are rendered. Clients with financial hardship can discuss alternative arrangements.
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a particular altered state of selective hypersuggestibility brought about in an individual by a combination of relaxation, fixation of attention, and suggestion.
Most people reach a state of relaxation more often than they may suspect. Light hypnosis is achieved while one is absorbed watching television, driving on the highway, or daydreaming.
Some common misconceptions about hypnosis include the belief that under hypnosis people will violate their own moral standards. This can never happen, because the client does not lose control or surrender his or her will to the therapist.
Another misconception is that under hypnosis people fall asleep or become unconscious. In fact, when hypnotized, people are very alert and conscious. If a client becomes so deeply relaxed that he drifts into natural sleep, the client would simply be directed to awaken.
Can everybody be hypnotized? Yes, if he or she has the ability to concentrate.
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a valuable therapeutic tool for promoting personal transformation and healing. Transpersonal hypnotherapy acknowledges the relationship between the threefold nature of man: physical, mental/ emotional, and spiritual.
Man has the capacity to draw on inner resources that usually remain dormant. These inner resources can take us beyond our present limitations. Hypnotherapy allows for a deeply spiritual approach to soul growth and has for its focus the total being and its connectedness with the infinite Reality.
Hypnotherapy can bring out each person’s inner, subjective resources—without violating an individual’s system of beliefs.
Three main areas of growth and healing:
Regression: Present/Past Life
Regression therapy provides a means to trace the cause of a conflict or a problem in the present to its root cause in an earlier time in the present life or to an earlier life. With proper guidance, the client experiences release from
the problem.
Behavior Modification
Under hypnosis, suggestions are remembered more readily, which promotes a change in attitude or behavior modification. The one requirement for success in using the power of the subconscious state of mind is that the individual is strongly motivated to change. Behavior modification can help in the following areas:
• Smoking addiction
• Weight loss
• Anxiety/stress
• Eating disorders
• Habit cessation
• Sleeping disorders
• Fears/phobias
• Motivation/attitude
• Nail biting
• Self-image (including self-esteem)
• Public speaking
• Fixations
• Mood swings
• Memory Retrieval
• Grief management
• Chronic pain, such as arthritis & cancer
In hypnotherapy, the cause of the problem in the subconscious is located and, with guidance, the problem is dissolved. In the case of phobias, such as fear of water, flying, or dentistry, again, the cause is located, then the person’s perception of events is changed, and the fear usually disappears.
It is important always to remember that the subconscious programs us. It acts on whatever suggestion or information is impressed on it and thus creates our inner and outer reality according to the programming it is given.
What would you like to change in your life? With hypnotherapy, you can achieve your goal by changing your programming. “What mind has created, mind can change.”
Deepening of the Meditation Process
Since this is always an individual matter that depends on where the person is in the practice and understanding of meditation, it is best to speak to Swami Shankar-ananda before scheduling an appointment for this particular form of hypnotherapy.
CASE REPORTS
Here are the comments of a few people who have experienced the healing benefits of hypnotherapy with Swamiji. Names are not used in order to respect privacy.
“An old sorrow somewhere deep within was holding me back in so many ways. I knew it was so deep and there was no explanation for it in the present life. Not only did I discover what the past event had been through past-life hypnotherapy, but also Swami took me to a place where I was able to in essence rewrite the past and totally heal this ancient pain!”
“After a number of past-life regressions, I was inspired to request a future- life progression. Many details of this possible future were shown, but there was one aspect of the future potential not to my liking. After the hypnotherapy, I spent several weeks of inner work to create a different future. A followup future progression revealed that the aspect of life I wanted in the future was now there. So hypnotherapy helped me create a future that I desired.”
“I wanted to know what was blocking my ability to write. During a life in China, my village was invaded. The marauders found me hiding in a little shed, standing protectively in front of some children. One soldier killed me with a spear. Swamiji helped me to understand that this event had registered as fear of exposure—and writing is a form of exposing oneself. Since then, my writing blockhas disappeared.”
